4th Urmston Guides (affiliated to Greenfield) will join all sections of Girlguiding in Greater Manchester West at ‘Party in the Park’ on 5th September 2009. This is the Centenary launch event for the County and Lancashire Border, Lancashire South East and Manchester Association. It marks the occasion 100 years ago when some girls turned up at a rally held for Boy Scouts at Crystal Palace in London. They wanted Robert Baden-Powell, the Chief Scout, to start something for the girls. Guiding started in 1910 set up and led by Agnes, his sister with his wife, Olave, being the first Chief Guide. Celebrations will be held across the country during 2010.
